![]() ![]() You launch the app, tell it your phone number, and a moment or two later they send an SMS to that same number with a code to confirm it. Your phone number is your Viber identifier. I’ve been trying it today, and have a few notes. Not really a strong and accurate testing method and definitely not real world conditions but I see what you mean.Viber is a new free VOIP app, currently available only for the iPhone. There was a lot of interference from doing a side by side test and I wonder if that has anything to do with the quality as well? And what other factors could be at play that I'm missing. Kinda weird how the iPhones video was much darker even though I was in soft light? But on desktop (Mac) A to M & I to M perform better but on I to M the stream from the Mac looks best being played on the iPhone. So A to A, I to I and A to I combos all look bad but slightly worst on the i. As you said in your report iPhone to iPhone looks hideous a well. And the video stream playing on the SE from the 6 pro looked a bit better as well? Also I had been told that some times when I am using my Mac my video looks worse even with it's upgraded 1080 camera but what I see is rather clear. I compared my 21' 6 pro with a 20' iPhone SE and then the 6 Pro with the 17' Pixel 2 and both looked horrible but the pixels looked a bit more clear. The quality does change depending on certain variables like signal strength, devices specs, internet speed, etc.īut from what I seen it is always worse when an apple product is involved. ![]() ![]() Video quality on signal seems fine just because I'm used to it. As a user I understand your frustrations, but also as a developer I empathise with the challenge and triage Signal need to do, and I encourage you to do so too Live video compression is hard, make no mistake about it. There's more important things for them to work on and I understand that. Not getting a reply at all isn't a great experience, sure, but I don't think there'd be much the devs could do beyond apologise and perhaps acknowledge it as a weaker point of Signal that needs more dev time. Ultimately though, Signal's benefit is in its privacy and due to its relative immaturity compared to the services you and I are comparing against, I understand the tradeoff there.Īs a frequent user of GitHub and a developer of open source software, your issues are unhelpful and not really actionable in any way. ![]() Far blockier with more artifacts, feels either bitrate limited by not using all the bandwidth available, or just cheaper video compression being used resulting in worse quality. I'm not an iOS user, but on Android/Windows I've noticed that Signal's video call quality is noticeably worse than more mature software (Discord being my comparison).
